Choosing a Gynecologist: How to Find the Right Fit For You
Choosing a gynecologist can be a bit of a process. Some women have had bad experiences with previous gynecologists, which makes it harder to imagine liking a new one. Others may not know exactly what they’re looking for in a gynecologist. Today we’re going to talk through some attributes that we find are helpful to consider:
Comfort
The relationship you have with your gynecologist is an intimate one. It’s important to feel comfortable with the person who will be performing your gynecologic exam and monitoring your reproductive health with you.
In fact, it’s extremely important that you feel comfortable bringing up anything at all. Some parts of vaginal and reproductive health may feel embarrassing or stressful to speak about. But if your doctor doesn’t know about symptoms you’re experiencing, you could end up with a much worse problem that hugely impacts your health.
That’s why our providers try their hardest to give you the time and attention you need to feel comfortable during your visits. There is nothing you can tell us that will make us think of you differently or badly.
Gender
It is common for people to want their gynecologist to be a certain gender. This also ties back to being comfortable with that provider and anything you may want to talk to them about. If you didn’t like your past gynecologists, but you’ve never seen a female doctor – or vice versa – you may want to consider whether changing that would help.
At our clinic, we’re proud to offer both male providers – like Dr. Brandon Lingenfelter DO PhD – and female providers – like Megan Lingenfelter PA, Dr. Samantha Snyder DO, and Valeah Bradshaw NP.
For those expecting moms also looking for an obstetrician, Dr. Samantha Snyder DO and Dr. Brandon Lingenfelter DO PhD are both highly trained and prepared to walk you through every stage of pregnancy, all the way to the delivery room.
Respect
Part of being able to communicate properly with your doctor is about feeling respected. If you may be navigating a pregnancy, you’ll spend a lot of time with this doctor over the course of a year. Do you feel like your providers really listen to you when you bring up an issue, and that they respect what you have to say?
Here with Dr. Lingenfelter, Megan Lingenfelter, Dr. Snyder, and Valeah Bradshaw, we work to treat our patients the way we would want our own moms, sisters, or daughters to be treated. That means if it’s important enough for you to say it, it’s important enough for us to hear it.
Affiliations
If you’re an expecting mom – or hoping to become one – make sure your gynecologist is affiliated with the hospital where you’d like to give birth. Both Brandon Lingenfelter DO, PhD and Samantha Snyder DO are affiliated with Princeton Community Hospital.
