Annual Checkup
Summit Women’s Health recommends that you schedule a gynecology checkup once per year. This visit is essential in helping you stay healthy and prevent issues at all stages of your life.
Since we know that it can be difficult to make time for multiple appointments each year, our providers try to cover all your annual assessments in one convenient appointment for you.
What will my annual gynecologic appointment include?
In addition to discussions with you to hear about any concerns you may have, our providers will conduct a thorough:
assessment of your current health status
breast exam to check for lumps, skin changes, or nipple discharge
pelvic exam to check your vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus, rectum, pelvis, and ovaries, for masses, growths, or other abnormalities
Pap test to screen for cervical cancer
Depending on your age, our providers may also recommend a regular mammogram as part of your annual exam.
How do I choose a gynecologist that’s right for me?
At Summit Women’s Health, we know that choosing a gynecologist can be a bit of a process. Some women have had bad experiences with previous gynecologists, which makes it harder to imagine liking a new one. Others may not know exactly what they’re looking for in a gynecologist.
Overall, we recommend that you consider finding someone you feel comfortable with. Some parts of vaginal and reproductive health may feel embarrassing or stressful to speak about. But if your doctor doesn’t know about symptoms you’re experiencing, you could end up with a much worse problem that impacts your health. That’s why our providers try their hardest to give you the time and attention you need to feel comfortable during your visits. There is nothing you can tell us that will make us think of you differently or badly.
Will my annual appointment be with a female or male doctor?
It is common for people to want their gynecologist to be a certain gender. This also ties back to being comfortable with that provider and anything you may want to talk to them about. At Summit Women’s Health, we’re proud to offer both male providers – like Dr. Brandon Lingenfelter DO PhD – and female providers – like Megan Lingenfelter PA, Dr. Samantha Snyder DO, and Valeah Bradshaw NP.
No matter your age or the stage you’re in with your reproductive health, annual checkups are an important part of your well-being, and we look forward to supporting you.
